Now in its fifth year, the Royal Trophy - played between teams from Europe and Asia - was created by
legendary five-time major tournament winner Severiano Ballesteros, with the intention of extending the
same growth impetus to Asian golf that the Ryder Cup delivered for Europe in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Principal Award for the winning continent each year is the ownership of the 16kg solid-silver Royal
Trophy, which was donated by His Majesty the King of Thailand.
